🥘 BUTTER CHICKEN RECIPE

Ingredients:

Chicken Marinating:

  1. Chicken thighs or breast (skinless) – 5 lbs (700 g)
  2. Yogurt (Plain) – 1 Cup
  3. Lemon juice – 2 Tsp
  4. Garam Masala – 2 Tsp
  5. Ground Cumin – 2 Tsp
  6. Ground Coriander – 1 Tsp
  7. Turmeric Powder – 1 Tsp
  8. Chili Powder (adjust to your spice preference) – 1 Tsp
  9. Salt, to taste

For Butter Chicken Sauce:

  1. Butter – 2 tbsp
  2. 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  3. 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  4. 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  5. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  6. 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes or pureed tomatoes
  7. 1 tablespoon chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
  8. 1 teaspoon garam masala
  9. 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  10. 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to taste)
  11. 1 cup heavy cream
  12. Salt, to taste
  13. Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Direction / Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken
  • In a large bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and salt.
  • Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).
  1. Cook the Chicken
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated chicken pieces (discard excess marinade) and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  1. Make the Sauce
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
  • Add the grated ginger and minced garlic, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the crushed or pureed tomatoes, chili powder, garam masala, cumin, and sugar. Cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld.
  • Add the heavy cream, stirring to combine, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
  1. Combine Chicken and Sauce
  • Return the cooked chicken to the sauce, stirring to coat it well. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to heat through.
  1. Serve
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with naan, rice, or your choice of side.
