🥘 BUTTER CHICKEN RECIPE
Ingredients:
Chicken Marinating:
- Chicken thighs or breast (skinless) – 5 lbs (700 g)
- Yogurt (Plain) – 1 Cup
- Lemon juice – 2 Tsp
- Garam Masala – 2 Tsp
- Ground Cumin – 2 Tsp
- Ground Coriander – 1 Tsp
- Turmeric Powder – 1 Tsp
- Chili Powder (adjust to your spice preference) – 1 Tsp
- Salt, to taste
For Butter Chicken Sauce:
- Butter – 2 tbsp
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons grated ginger
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes or pureed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon chili powder (adjust to your spice preference)
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, to taste)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt, to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Direction / Instructions:
- Marinate the Chicken
- In a large bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and salt.
- Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).
- Cook the Chicken
- Heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the marinated chicken pieces (discard excess marinade) and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
- Make the Sauce
- In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the chopped onions and sauté until they are golden brown.
- Add the grated ginger and minced garlic, cooking for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the crushed or pureed tomatoes, chili powder, garam masala, cumin, and sugar. Cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld.
- Add the heavy cream, stirring to combine, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Combine Chicken and Sauce
- Return the cooked chicken to the sauce, stirring to coat it well. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to heat through.
- Serve
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with naan, rice, or your choice of side.
