🥗 Russian Salad (Basic)

Ingredients:

Vegetables:

  1. Carrots (Boiled & Diced) – 1 Cup
  2. Potatoes (Boiled & Diced) – 1 Cup
  3. Peas (Boiled) – 1 Cup
  4. Corn (Boiled) Optional – 1 Cup
  5. Green Beans (Boiled & Diced) Optional – 1 Cup

 

Fruits (optional):

  1. Pineapple (Diced) – 1/2 Cup
  2. Apples (Diced) – 1/2 Cup

 

For the Dressing:

  1. Mayonnaise – 1 Cup
  2. Fresh Herbs (Coriander or Parsley) Chopped for Garnish
  3. Salt – to taste
  4. Black Pepper – to taste
  5. Fresh Cream (for extra creaminess) Optional – 1/2 Cup
  6. Lemon Juice (Optional) – 1 tablespoon

Direction/Instructions:

Prepare the vegetables:

In a pot of boiling water, cook the potatoes, carrots, peas, and green beans until tender but firm. Drain and allow them to cool completely.

 

Combine Ingredients:

Combine the cooled vegetables, diced pineapple, and apples, if using, in a large mixing bowl.

 

Make the dressing:

In another bowl, thoroughly combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, fresh cream (if using), salt, and pepper.

 

Mix Everything:

Pour the dressing over the vegetable and fruit mixture. Fold everything together gently until the dressing is evenly distributed over the vegetables.

 

Chill:

Before serving, place the salad in the refrigerator for at least one hour. This enables the flavors to combine.

 

Serve:

Before serving, garnish with finely chopped fresh herbs and savor your dish of Russian salad!

 

Tips:

Instead of mayonnaise, you can use yogurt for a healthier version.

Depending on your preferences, you can alter the salad by adding or excluding fruits and vegetables.

Walnuts and other nuts are sometimes added for a little crunch.
